Jesus Romero Sr.

Jesus Romero, Sr., 75, of San Benito, Texas, passed away on February 9, 2014 at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Harlingen, Texas.

Jesus Romero was the second oldest of seven siblings. He lost his mother when he was eight years old. At the age of 19 years, Jesus and M. Minerva were married and soon after, they had nine children. Jesus worked for the San Benito School District for 20 years. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Minerva Ramirez Romero; three sons, Oscar Romero, Cesar Romero, and Jesse Romero; and parents, Victor A. and Dolores A. Romero.

He is survived by his children: Leticia Romero, Maria De Jesus (Quirino) Mendoza, Luis (Nelda) Romero, Sylvia Romero, Martha Alicia (Jaime) Simental, and Dimas (Melissa) Romero, all of San Benito, Texas. Also surviving him are two sisters, Dora Rodriguez and Ofelia Villegas; one brother, Victor Romero; and his pride and joy, 25 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito.

Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Benito City Cemetery.
