A woman and her eight children were recently forced to relocate to the Valley from Michigan due to some unfortunate events.

According to Yvonne Mendez, Case Manager for the START (South Texas Adult Resource and Training) Center, the family, unfamiliar to the area, was in dire need of assistance.

“What happened was that the husband was deported, so they made their way over here to the Valley with no support networks or family here,” Mendez explained. “They had to seek shelter at one of our local shelters. They were referred to us by one of the case workers there because we have the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG).”
