Cheergate is likely to continue well into the new year.

At the pretrial hearing in the case of a San Benito High School varsity cheerleader with disabilities accused of assaulting the parent of a fellow cheerleader, a trial date was tentatively set for 10 a.m. on Jan. 28—this to grant the cheerleader’s attorney with sufficient time to explore defense options.

Seventeen-year-old senior cheerleader Alexandria Hernandez appeared in Municipal Court Friday to face a class “C” assault charge.

It seems to me that there is a double standard here, one set of rules for Alex and a different set for the other cheerleaders. The only mistake SBCISD made , was allowing her to be put on the cheer team when she obviously did not make the team on her own merits. Of course the first thing Mr. Trevino did when that happened was to confront the district and force them to put her on or else they were discriminating against her ! Please understand that I feel bad for Alex, not only because of her disability, but because she is being totally misguided by her uncle. A lot of people’s mentality is the “pobrecita ” she is disabled , so must be a victim and there is no way that she could be the one instigating any of this ! There is ALWAYS 2 sides to a story, unfortunately people tend to stereotype certain groups of people and therefore cannot see beyond that. Let me share something with you all, when I was a 4th grader in the mid seventies there was a boy who had braces on his legs and had to use a crutch to help him walk . He used that crutch as a weapon, hitting and tripping other kids within his reach. That kid was MEAN , let me tell you he would always laugh and say so what if you tell, they won’t do anything to me anyway, sad part is that he was right….

People really think she is a victim.. If they only knew what she would to teachers at VMA while she attended there.. from what I heard she sent a teacher to the hospital. Apparently she would purposely run into students and school staff with her electric wheel chair. So, really who is a “bully”?

This has gotten way out of control, this young lady is visably distrrought by all of this, I don’t be leave she has been bullied by these girls, and don’t agree with her actions but I do think her guardians are usingher to their benefit and i think Mrs. Duncan should just be the bigger more mature adult and let this go,all these adults have made this issue, sometimes parents should stay the hell out of high school issue, sometimes kids can work things out on their own, Alex has been a cheerleader for two years apparently things were fine before or i’m sure we would have heard differently…. i’m sure all the cheerleaders involved in this stupid scandal have been distrought too………let it go
