Hermila (Mila) B. Valdez, 89, from San Benito, TX, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born to Leandro and Hermelinda Barrera on November 22, 1923 in Gonzales, TX.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Carlos Valdez, Sr.; her son, Hector (Tito) Valdez; her brothers, Jose Barrera, Pablo Barrera and Leandro Barrera, Jr.
Survivors include her children, Belia Cantu (Frank), Elma V. Noyola (Nayo), Carlos Valdez, Jr. (Frankie) from Ty Ty, Georgia; Maria Elena Garcia from McAllen, Texas; Mario Valdez (Rebecca), Armando Valdez (Lori) from Orlando Florida; 13 grandchildren, Criselda Dougherty (Justin), Marisol Cantu (Michael Gerlach), Venessa Cantu (Miguel Garcia), Nayito Noyola (Lucy), Sarita Noyola, Marianela Lerma (Freddie), Carlos Valdez III, Diego Eduardo Garcia (Cristina), Ana Liza Sauceda (Richard), Bianca Valdez, Mario Valdez, Jr., Jack Carlos Valdez, Julia Capri Valdez; 12 great-grandchildren, Maya and Noah Dougherty, Tomas and Alex Gerlach, Abraham and Benjamin Garcia, Isabella and Sophia Valdez, Alessandra and Camila Lerma, Lyla and Lennon Bay Garcia; brother, Martin Barrera (Belia) from Georgia; many extended family members and friends.
Mila will be greatly missed by her family members who have described her as loving, nurturing, beautiful, kind, wonderful, and exceptionally caring. A special thanks to Believe In Us Primary Home Care caregivers, Angelica Guzman, Cruz Serrata, Dora Baltazar, and Esperanza Rojas. Also a special thanks to Heart of the Valley Hospice and its staff and Letty Tamez of A New Hope Home Health.
Visitation was held on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home, with the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in San Benito with interment to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Mario, my long time friend/brother I will miss your mom but we know that she lived a VERY happy life. She did a fantastic job with ALL her children and was VERY proud of you all. May she rest in peace now and be together again with your dad in heaven. Take care my friend/brother. C. Castro
