Loan dollars up in lower RGV

Federally backed loans made to small businesses in the Lower Rio Grande Valley District during the 2013 fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30, hit $57.2 million growing 50.8 percent from last year, the U.S. Small Business Administration announced Tuesday.

More than 30 lenders made 166 loans through the SBA’s guarantee program during the 2013 fiscal year with the amount borrowed toppling the 2012 record by almost $20 million.
