emergency-lightsCameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio confirmed Friday that investigators are currently searching for a man described as a “person of interest” in a double homicide.

According to Lucio, Sheriff’s investigators are searching for Mario Gonzalez San Roman in connection with the brutal deaths of Homero de los Santos, 38, and a woman reportedly identified as San Roman’s wife, Lorena Gonzalez, 42.

The bodies of Lorena Gonzalez and De los Santos were discovered Thursday afternoon inside the former’s El Calaboz home, located on the 23000 block of Military Highway 281 south of San Benito in the vicinity of El Ranchito and La Paloma.

Lucio said the Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene at approximately 12:30 p.m. on June 20 by neighbors who reported a foul odor emitting from the house.

“Nobody responded and the house was locked, so we had to get a search warrant to be able to get inside the house,” Lucio said. “That took about two or three hours, and when they (Sheriff’s deputies) went in, they found two bodies in the bathroom, a male and a female.”
