Officers with the San Benito Police Department arrested a Harlingen man after he discharged a firearm at a local business.

Eric Gonzales, 19, of Harlingen was arrested on Wednesday, June 19, following an investigation into a shooting that occurred during the late evening hours of April 12.

“We responded to a crash actually,” said SBPD Detective Rogelio Banda Jr. “When the officers got there, the female driver stated that she was running away from an arcade that was located on the corner of Whalen Road and North Frontage Road because somebody had just shot her vehicle.”

When the investigators went to the arcade they made contact with security guards and they located some bullet casings. According to police, Gonzales, who worked at the arcade as one of the security guards, allegedly identified himself as the man who discharged his weapon because he believed that a criminal act had just occurred.
