Alfonso Obregon’s pay as interim superintendent for San Benito CISD will be addressed behind closed doors at Friday’s regular board meeting following concerns that his salary had not been previously agreed upon in open session.

Scheduled for 7 p.m. on June 21, the Board of Trustees is expected to discuss Obregon’s salary in closed session after two board members have called into question an agreement that they said was not approved by trustees.

Obregon said Tuesday that board member Anna Cruz placed the item on the agenda while board member Oscar Medrano indicated that he was the second trustee to also request its placement.

“We went out there and voted against it,” Medrano said of the May 23 vote by the Board of Trustees, which was split 4-3, to place Antonio G. Limón on paid administrative leave and to hire Obregon as the interim superintendent. “There was no salary or anything ever discussed, and then it was brought to our attention that it (interim’s salary) was never discussed in public and that it should have been. That’s why it we put it on the agenda.”

It wasn’t until Monday, May 27, that Obregon said he spoke to Board President Yliana Gonzalez and district legal counsel Tony Torres regarding his pay.

Pictures are worth a thousand words, YG. Mercedes is a small town where everyone is related to someone in the school district. How can a 4 year elementary principal move up soooooo fast? Pictures, pictures, pictures.

Y G the doors have shut for you in Brownsville and Mercedes. Ron was not able to help you even after you helped his company get in. Not even the erate gift helped you in Brownsville. As long as the three blind mice follow you can do what you want. That includes hiring and paying an attorney, budget consultant, insurance agent, insurance consultant and all of them in your pocket. Still stuck in Los Fresnos.

What a pack of lies. It’s about time that middle school gets cleaned of it’s “snake pit” full of poison.

I just read the SBNews and the interim supt. signed a contract for around the amount Mr. Limon receives. How could it be that MRS. RODRIGUEZ and her ATTORNEY could send this gentleman a contract when according to board members the salary was not voted on? Didn’t SHE BOARD PRESIDENT JUST RETURN FROM YET ANOTHER CONFERENCE AND SHE STILL DOES NOT KNOW OR CARE TO FOLLOW THE RULES??????
WHILE we are at it, HOW MUCH IS THIS ATTORNEY RECEIVING? HE should know better.. school law 101.
Somebody please let me know how WE CAN GET OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT BACK?

There she goes again. Making her own decisions. Forget about the rest of the board. Only her opinion matters. NOT!

!!! Excellent Reporting San Benito News !!!

First, the insurance was cancelled without school board approval and now interim superintendent is hired with a verbal agreement without a contract approved by the board.

These are no longer rookie mistakes, this in complete “INCOMPETENCE” bordering on an irresponsible dictatorship.!

Paying an interim superintendent and a suspended superintendent the same salary at the same time is beyond ridiculous!

Something must be done to stop the hemorrhaging of tax dollars for this INCOMPETENCE.

The interim is earning the same amount as former supt. Limon. By the way, that salary was never decided upon at a board meeting… Someone just told the business office to pay him that amt. This is a clear violation of the open meetings act!
Many things are happening in this district in violation of policies and laws. For example, did you know that a middle school principal makes jewelry and then sells it to the faculty? This is the same faculty this principal evaluates and gives employment contracts to. This person has transferred up to 16 faculty off the staff so far this summer. Could it be that these few aren’t regular customers? Isn’t this a friable offense on the part of the principal. Interim supt. obregon has already been made aware of this violation. This principal basically held the staff hostage. Editor, please look into this issue. Why are these board members allowing these things to happen? Imagine what would happen if the teachers who were transferred sue the district claiming that they were moved because they didn’t buy jewelry from the boss. Wow!

This man is a educator of 42 years and a former superintendent of Robstown ISD. He knows the rules of what needs to happen to superintendent salary by the board of trustees. The only ones who are being taken are the four who voted for him. He just barely talked to the school attorney…. well there you go.. isn’t he the one who calls TASB to get information. Where is Mr. O’Hanlon when we need him? This district is going to be out of MONEY by AUGUST BUDGET TIME. Get READY to WRITE Mr. LIMON and HIS ATTORNEY a CHECK SBCISD!

and they are all for the kids…. yeah right….
