Southwest Key (Dolly Vinsant) pic-5-12-13Speaking at Thursday’s meeting of the Rotary Club of San Benito was Vice President of Immigrant Youth Services for Southwest Key, Alexia Rodriguez, who addressed Rotarians in the meeting room at Blanquita’s Mexican Restaurant.

Rodriguez updated those in attendance on the happenings with the newly restored former Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital, which has now opened as a shelter for undocumented children headed by Southwest Key.

A nonprofit organization, Southwest Key officially began operations last week at the former hospital, dubbed Casa Rio Grande, and the former facility known as Twinbrooke South, dubbed Casa Antigua. The buildings will be utilized to help children between the ages of 10 through 17 years who have crossed the border into the US by themselves and helps them locate their families while providing a shelter for them.
