There may be a few new faces at San Benito CISD campuses following the retirement, resignation and possible reassignments of principals.
Citing her desire to step down since the 2011-2012 school year, San Benito High School Principal Delia Weaver said Wednesday that she plans to retire on June 30.
“I wanted to retire last year but the superintendent convinced me not to because we’re part of a team, so I decided to stay one more year since I really enjoy what I’m doing,” Weaver said.
She’s worked for San Benito CISD for 36 years, the last six as SBHS principal, in various positions, including assistant principal as well as director of the school district’s Career and Technology Education Department.
“It’s been a challenge but a good challenge,” Weaver added. “I implemented good programs and students are doing very well. I just really enjoyed the students working as principal, assistant principal and career tech director… just finding different ways for students to succeed and finish high school in four years as well as encouraging them to continue with their higher education.”

I have walked the halls at SBHS as a parent, visitor, and as an experienced educator. The climate of the school starts at the top. There should be no favorites; however, that is not the case at SBHS. A strong instructional leader who can lead staff and students is needed. It is not about having the ” Principal title” that matters. Whatever anyone wants to say about the high school need only to look at the higher ups. This board have their hands in matters that they have no business getting involved with due to their own agendas.
There are caring staff members at SBHS.
By the way, Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
Have you all ever walked the halls of a school as a parent or a visitor?…. Why do people sugarcoat the truth?… Open your eyes? … The ones that suffer are the devoted educators and students that go to school to learn and earn their diploma!
A few years ago, I believed that “if the student hasn’t learned, the teacher has not taught.” Over those years, however, more parents believe that the schools are responsible for educating their children, including instilling pride, respect and self-esteem. Wrong!! Pride, respect for authority and self-esteem are primarily taught in the home. When parents fail in their parental duties, teachers and administrators are faced with insurmountable obstacles and constraints. Thank the teachers, administrators and support staff . . . when we downgrade and criticize them, we adversely afffect our childrens’ education.
It is interesting that all of the sudden people want to be critical of the high school. That’s not fair to the staff who really care about student learning. Shame on you people.
Well put,L.B .The board, including the administration needs to put the students first. The teachers are there to teach the students, they are working for us,the taxpayers,we pay their salary, not vice a versa. The school is there to educate the students, not to offer jobs to the teachers. If the teaching profession doesn’t think that’s how it should be,take a hike.Go and see if you could work teaching someplace else, fat chance.Maybe this is to blame for some of the defective students that are produced by the public school system here,is it really any wonder that the “Idea” school system is so doing so well, not from “cherrypicking” students,so much,as “cherrypicking” teachers.
I have to say Mrs. Weaver has done an excellent jobs principal at sbhs, she has been a strong and respected leader, I don’t understand how some peope can talk crap about our students and teachers, we have a great staff and teachers that work hard and care about our studens. Times have changed students have changed, and they have changed everywhere just not at sbhs, and yes we do have a few that are not there to do what is expected of them but,, that can be said at any high school. I hope who ever is our principal next year, they can fill Mrs Weaver’s shoes……the changes needed for sbcisd need to start with the board, big changes. The board needs to put students and teachers first, not personal issues for themselves.
I Hope That a Qualified, Experienced, Strong Principal takes over SBHS..I a l so hope they clean up the disruptions, students’ rude attitudes, teachers’ negative attitudes towards students, in other words…Make the high school A Positive LEARNING ENVIRONMENT!
Yea! we need a bat and bullhorn toting principle like Joe Clark!
