The San Benito Housing Authority has decided to purchase the historic Stonewall Jackson Hotel building following weeks of testing to determine the physical status of the building, an SBHA official confirmed Tuesday.

According to SBHA Executive Director Arnold Padilla, the decision to purchase the building was made in the latter part of March once the SBHA had received all of the engineering reviews of the building.

“All of the engineering reviews came back with good outcomes,” said Padilla. “The building is physically sound, asbestos is very minimal, lead-based paint is also very minimal, and structural sound and environmental clearance came back well. Once we had all those reports back in, we were able to make the decision to move forward with the purchase.”

If this is such a win-win situation, why doesn’t SBHA Executive Director,Arnold Padilla, bankroll it,himself, instead of us the taxpayers. We’ve seen enough of his management skills.
