Concentric Circles Forming In Still WaterA public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. at the Cameron County Courthouse in Brownsville to discuss a Texas Community Development Block Grant Disaster Relief Fund grant application on behalf of the East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation.

The $350,000 grant will be submitted to the Texas Department of Agriculture on June 1 to address worsening drought conditions in the area serviced by the ERHWSC, officials said.

“It’s really just a public hearing so people can come in and we can inform them of what the project is going to entail and what we hope to accomplish with that project,” said Special Events Coordinator Edgar Garcia.

“Basically what the project consists of is they’re trying to build a new well because of the drought conditions that are occurring. The East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation is in danger of having low water levels, and they’re going to build a second well to alleviate those concerns.”
