Local dad arrested for leaving daughter at store

A San Benito dad was arrested Saturday for leaving his 4-year-old daughter at a local store, police said.

According to Detective Rogelio Banda Jr. of the San Benito Police Department, 35-year-old Andres Aguilar of San Benito was arrested Saturday, March 30, for child abandonment/endangerment with intent to return, a class A misdemeanor.

Banda said the charges stem from an incident in which Aguilar is accused of leaving his young girl at a dollar store, where he had been shopped on Saturday. It was at 1 p.m. that police responded to the dollar store, located on the 400 block of South Sam Houston Boulevard. There, employees informed police that the child had been left behind at the business by her father for over 20 minutes.
