San Benito CISD students and staff are mourning the loss of one of their own.

Sarah Lee Moreno, a 46-year-old technology coordinator at Frank Roberts Elementary School, died Monday, March 18 at approximately 11:30 a.m. Moreno had worked at Frank Roberts for 22 years.

“She’s going to be greatly missed,” Frank Roberts Principal Gilbert Galvan said. “She was awesome and friendly. She ran the computer labs and fixed every computer in the school. She always had a beautiful smile and was always ready to dance when we had our sock-hops. She was very active in school and very supportive of the administration and especially the students.”

According to Galvan, Moreno had fallen ill during Spring Break and was hospitalized on Wednesday, March 13. Still, there was no indication that the principal was aware of that her condition could potentially be severe.

“She was fine, then all of a sudden she got really sick,” Galvan said. “She ended up in the hospital last Wednesday, and then things just started happening. On Saturday, one of my staff members went to visit her and said that she sounded good and said that she was ready to come back to work on Monday. Then on Monday I got called out and received the news.”

“Her husband is a good friend of mine,” Galvan continued. “We’re very sorry about it because we all cared about her.”

Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón also offered his condolences to Moreno’s family.

“Our prayers go out to her family,” Limón said. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our employee.”
