Castro places second at freshmen meet

GreyhoundsMERCEDES – The San Benito High School freshmen boys track team, coached by Rolando Casas, competed at a track meet held at Mercedes High School on Thursday, February 28.

Pablo Castro placed second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 18.06 while Jose Martinez came in second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.90.

Ted Chapa, Nicholas Rosales, Alex Castillo and Alvaro Vargas placed fifth in the 800 meter relay with a time of 1.41.85. Participating in the 400 meter dash was Eddie Alvarez with a time of 59.56, Ramiro Martinez with a time of 61.06 and Xavier Martinez with a time of 61.19.

Pablo Castro placed second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.55 while Mario Valdez placed fifth with a time of 48.45.

Competing in the 200 meter dash was Ramiro Martinez with a time of 26.20, Nicholas Rosales with a time of 25.09, and Jacob Zuñiga with a time of 26.23. Competing in the 1600 meter run was Rodrigo Gamez who placed fifth with a time of 5.18.36, Devon Garza with a time of 5.59.42 and Roel Luna with a time of 6.00.76.

The 1600 meter relay consisted of Pablo Castro, Alex Castillo, Mario Valdez and Edward Alvarez, who collectively placed third with a time of 3.55.28.

Placing second in the high jump with a jump of 5’2” was Pablo Castro. The team scored a total of 52 points.
