The San Benito Lady ’Hound varsity softball team has kicked off the 2013 season much like it does every season, dominating.
The 12-1 Lady ’Hounds have dominated nearly every team they have faced thus far and don’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. They competed in the Mission Fast Pitch Tournament on Thursday, February 14, where they defeated the PSJA Bears by a score of 11-0. The following day they faced the Pace Viqueens, defeating them with a score of 7-3, before handling Nikki Rowe with a score of 4-0.
The following day, the Lady ’Hounds faced a tough Edinburg North team but was still able to come away with the 1-0 victory, advancing to the championship game to face Mercedes. They easily finished off Mercedes, earning the championship with a score of 8-0. Earning All-Tournament honors were Dorothy Millan and Crystal Castillo, while Amber Jasso earned Tournament MVP honors.
On Tuesday, February 19, the Lady ’Hounds defeated the PSJA Lady Wolverines with a score of 10-0. Leading hitters were Amber Jasso who went 2-3 with three runs scored; Blandina Treviño who went 3-4, and Dorothy Millan who went 2-3 and scored three runs. Jackie Elizondo also hit an infield homerun while Jasso threw her second no-hitter of the season.
The Lady ’Hounds participated in the La Joya Fastpitch Tournament on Thursday, February 21, facing La Joya Palmview and beating them with a score of 11-0. The team then defeated Rio Hondo with a score of 13-0 before finishing the day with a 15-0 victory over Mission Veterans. The Lady ’Hounds advanced to the Gold Division Games on Saturday, February 23, where they defeated the Los Fresnos Lady Falcons with a score of 7-1 before beating PSJA North, 8-1.
The Lady ’Hounds’ fell with a score of 5-4 to the Edinburg Lady Bobcats. Making the All-Tournament team were Amber Jasso and Melanie Ramirez.
On Tuesday, February 26, the Lady ’Hounds traveled to McAllen to face Nikki Rowe. On Friday, March 1, they will face PSJA North at home.

Yup they play PSJA North for first place in district this Friday at home!

Lady Hounds win on Tues 2-0 against Rowe, a top team, giving the Lady Hounds a 3-0 District record and I believe 3 consequetive district whitewashes. I believe they shutout McHi in the first district game as well.
