Secretary: No plans to remove Medrano from board

Regarding his status as a member of the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees, Oscar Medrano does not appear to be going anywhere.

Fellow trustee and Board Secretary June Aguilera sought to dispel speculation on Friday that trustees are seeking to remove an ailing Oscar Medrano from the board – a concern expressed by his brother, Mario Medrano.

“The school board doesn’t have the power to kick him off,” Mario Medrano said. “It (removal) would have to go through a judge and a hearing, which is kind of time consuming.”

But Aguilera said no such plans have been expressed by any of the trustees. “As far as anybody on the board making direct comments to remove him, we haven’t made any comments like that,” Aguilera said. “All we’ve discussed is that we’re praying for his recovery and hope he’s doing well.”

Attempts to gain comment from Board President Yliana G. Rodriguez, Vice President Anna Cruz and trustees Hector Leal and Fatima and Julian Huerta were unsuccessful as of presstime Friday.

According to attorney Kevin O’Hanlon of O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath, the law firm currently serving San Benito CISD, a board member’s removal would not be a matter for trustees to determine.

“There’s no provision in the Texas Constitution for removal, there’s nothing in the education code for removal of officers or members of the board, so you’d have to go back to the Constitution, and the Constitution provides that it’d go to the district court,” O’Hanlon said. “The procedure with that is not with the board, it’s with the district judge, so removal from office is a terribly serious provision that would take someone to petition the court and ask for it. You’d have to go to court, and nobody’s asked me (to begin such procedures).

“To me, it’s a little premature to do that (remove Medrano),” O’Hanlon further remarked. “The Constitution does not give that right to the board. It gives it to the district court.”

It’s been over a month now that Oscar Medrano has been hospitalized. Initially, the trustee was admitted to a local hospital on Jan. 11 after suffering from what was described by his siblings as severe headaches. Oscar Medrano then underwent surgery on Jan. 18 to relieve head pressure brought on by vasculitis, a condition that causes inflammation of blood vessels, Mario Medrano said in previous interviews with the News. However, Oscar Medrano’s condition turned serious when he suffered what Mario Medrano said was a mini-stroke.

Still, his family has reason to be optimistic after Oscar Medrano was discharged from the hospital Tuesday and returned home, where he’s continuing therapy. Mario Medrano said a neurologist has indicated that it may be six to 12 months before Oscar Medrano can return to a full work schedule.

Mario Medrano said his brother may have other plans.

“Oscar’s actually doing really well, physically,” said Mario Medrano before thanking the community for the prayers and well-wishes Oscar Medrano has received. “It’s just his memory that’s taking a little time. But we’re really impressed because Oscar can carry a conversation just fine. It’s nothing short of a miracle, and we’ve been praying for one.

“The neurologist said six months to a year (before Oscar Medrano can make a full recovery),” Mario Medrano continued, “but right now he’s doing so well that I think he’ll be back much sooner than that.”

You can bet that the Clueless Foursome are communicating privately, plotting and planning to get rid of those that disagree with them or those that won’t give them the answers they want.
Watch for more big shenanigans from them soon!! They’ve only just begun. That’s OK. The authorities are still watching and listening.

Jade: Your friends are not being honest with you. They have been talking and doing the research about removing Mr. Medrano. Just ask their friends. Nothing is quiet in San Benito. The board of trustees is a board of 7, mrs. board president. Acting outside a “call board meeting” is a no-no! Your friend is talking. We will be listening at the board meeting tomorrow.

Jade: “we need to work together”.. Are you a “we” board member?? “We” those 4 have no desire to work with hector, Anna, or Oscar. Those 4 to include the BOARD PRESIDENT AT LOS FRESNOS, want to buy out Mr. Limon, Insurance Agent, and others to HAVE THEIR WAY. CLue to Mrs. Rodriguez you are Not the superintendent and surely HAVE A LOT TO LEARN. If you continue to negotiate with that BROWNSVILLE FRIEND you have, just remember your friends talk and so do cameras from what we hear. Good luck with that ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL AT LOS FRESNOS CISD! You need some more training on how to be a board member.

These 4 board members, to include the brother who made the motion and sister who seconded it to table the motion, are the ones to blame for not addressing the matter in a timely basis. So, PLEASE do not say they gave EQUAL pay. THEY HAD NO INTENTION to do so. Oscar, Anna and mr. Leal are to be credited for this bonus. We know the facts, do you? Try as you might to get people to believe these 4 have nothing to do with trying to get Oscar removed is ridiculous. Like people have commented, we are educated and know the truth. Those 4 have “close friends” that they have shared their plans to remove Oscar. Just check out their inner circle. Because we know…. And to your comment, we need to work together. You are right; however, share that thought with your good friends. Nice try Jade.

It’s disturbing to read such rancor remarks. I fail to understand, how these malice comments, reflect or define in any way, shape, or form these 4 board members. I base my opinion, not on hear say but from the direct statement of Counsel Kevin O’Hanlon. Allow me to elaborate, please call attention to, paragraph 7, last 2 sentences, Counsel O’Hanlon affirmation ” The procedure with that is not with the board, it’s with the district judge, so removal from office is a terribly serious provision that would take someone to petition the court and ask for it. You’d have to go to court, and nobody’s asked me (to begin such procedures).”

Counsel O’Hanlon statement validates, that these 4 board members, have NOT requested the removal of Mr. Medrano and it is with this support that I base my opinion, that these comments must be deliberate and malice “RUMORS”. As a Parent and Taxpayer, I commend all the 7 board members for their service to the District, and I applaud these board members, that protected the SB Taxpayers by refusing to increase property taxes. But, over all, it was these 4 Board Members that were committed to award EQUAL incentives to ALL District Employees across the board (when 3 Board Members were against equality).
We need to work together for the success of our Children and Employees and not against each other.

LOL!! Those 4 board members know very well that they want to remove Mr. Medrano from the school board! They have been talking about it since Oscar was admitted to the hospital, they talk about it and word gets out!!
June you and your other board member friends are not fooling anyone!! Just like you did not fool anyone when you voted against terminating the Ohanlon law firm when you publicly stated that you were disappointed with the services provided by the law firm, making statements such as “unprofesssionalism” of the law firm and how you were not happy with them!!

Please, we are not uneducated, ghetto, people!!

    We know the TRUTH!!

Remember, you can always take the person out of the GHETTO, but never take the GHETTO out of the person!!

How about visitors to the Los FRESNOS elementary school where the Board president works at? We miss Oscar and we are praying every day for his quick recovery. You 4 cannot not stop talking about removing Oscar. Your people cannot stop taking. We know how it can be done. Uneducated we are not. You have no respect! 2014 can not come soon enought. Praying and praying for Oscar.
