Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said on Tuesday that there were no new developments in the shooting death of a Rio Hondo High School senior in late December.

An ongoing investigation has not turned up any new leads following the arrest of a 13-year-old suspect charged with manslaughter for allegedly shooting his 18-year-old cousin, Ricky Ramos, Jr. of Las Yescas.

According to Sheriff Lucio, Ramos was killed when his 13-year-old relative allegedly pointed a .22 caliber rifle at him and pulled the trigger. Lucio previously stated that the juvenile did not know the firearm was loaded. Initially, the sheriff said the 13-year-old had been shooting at birds.

The suspect, who had been in the custody of the Darrell B. Hester Juvenile Justice Center in San Benito, was charged with manslaughter pending further investigation into the incident.
