Three male subjects, two of whom are reportedly students at San Benito High School, are currently incarcerated at the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito after being arrested on December 12 in conjunction with an attempted burglary in San Benito.

Cameron County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call regarding a burglary in progress at 7:22 a.m., at a private residence located on Resaca Santa Drive in San Benito, said Sheriff Omar Lucio.

“We received a call about a burglary of a habitation that had just occurred,” Lucio said. “The victim advised that two suspects had entered his house carrying a shotgun.”

The homeowner filed a report stating that two suspects fled his residence and entered a maroon Grand Marquis or Lincoln Towncar, where a third subject was waiting for them in the driver’s seat. The victim reportedly watched all three subjects drive away.

Lucio said, “At 7:56 a.m., the patrol deputies located a vehicle matching the description provided by the victim, and they conducted a traffic stop.”

The occupants of the vehicle were identified as two San Benito High School students, Brandon De Leon, 18, and Arturo Coronado, 18, with a third party, Jose Enrique Ruelas, 20, all of San Benito, said Lucio.

Additionally, Lucio said patrol deputies found a 12 gauge shotgun and shotgun shells inside the suspect vehicle. Also uncovered “were smoking bags with marijuana residue,” said Lucio.

The three subjects reportedly confessed to the victim’s allegations and allegedly said that they entered the house hoping to find money. Lucio said, “They say they became scared when they saw the homeowner, and they ran out (of the house).”

The three suspects were detained by deputies and arrested. They were charged with burglary of a habitation, which is a first degree felony, and engaging in organized criminal activity, also a first degree felony.

Information on their respective bonds was not available as of presstime.

Sad Sad sad, I don’t really think they knew the seriousness of this crime, they may not be angels but I really don’t think they are really bad kids, stupid maybe, I hope this does not ruin the rest of their lives.

Honestly? 18 and don’t know the seriousness of a shotgun? They are fortunate the homeowner didn’t shoot them first and then ask if they understood the seriousness of their actions.

    Stupid Kids
You had so much going for you only to throw it down the drain.
How sad that little ones in the community look up to these football players.
Send them to jail… You do the crime you you do the time. Plain and Simple

  1. My hearts goes out to Brandons mother. I happen to know she is a very hard working lady.Brandon knows that his 3 year old little brother looks up to him and is thinking about that every minute now. I assure you he is regretting his decision right about now big time. You may find this hard to belive but I know im my heart he is a good ,kind hearted boy and very reapectable.I’m sure he will learn from this horrible bad decision on his part and move on to make it up to his family AND friends whom he knows he has let down…… I take comfort in that.
I don’t know the other 2 but can only hope they realize and learn from this experience as well.

Brandon’s mother as hard working as she may be, lost the Brandon she used to know a long time ago. For someone to describe Brandon as respectful doesn’t truly understand Brandon. As for his 3 yo brother, I truly hope he does not look up to Brandon. Learn, absolutely, next time wait until the homeowner leaves his home. Who wakes up in the morning and asks themselves, Why don’t we just break into a house on the way to school?. After all, that’s just normal.

They made a mistake. They’re stupid kids, but I know Turi and I know he’s better than this. He just chose to do something stupid and got caught. He’s not violent or a threat to someone’s life, obviously. They harmed no one. Stole nothing. He just wanted more of something he didn’t need. Stop being so rude. He’ll have consequences. Your negativity isn’t needed.

They still broke into someone’s home and had a shotgun!! They may be good kids, but they did something wrong!
They didn’t take something from a store and got caught. You know one of they boys so your judgement is clouded because of that. I’m not being rude I’m saying the truth. If the truth hurts well that’s something you need to deal with! Stop treating this like they are pobrecitos!!

Had the homeowner shot and killed these misdirected young men, I guess “Okay” would’ve made comment about the mistaken homeowner.

SAN BENITO GREYHOUND FOOTBALL BABY!!!! What about the respect these boys showed for the home owner by breaking into her house with a shotgun!! They were 18,18,and 20 not 8, 8, and 10!! They knew better and did it anyway. Yes miranda it is simple….. They made a bad decision, and the courts will decide their fate.

Out of respect for all of their family and friends, people should keep their mean spirited comments to themselves. Everyone messes up, and only words of encouragement are needed at this time. Until the whole story comes out, no one should talk like they know them or what happened that day, because you don’t. It’s simple guys, if you don’t have anything nice to say, dont say it at all. All my prayers go out to their families.
