Board president approves Nov. 29 meeting, incentives on agenda

SBCISDSan Benito CISD Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón confirmed Tuesday evening that Board President Yliana G. Rodriguez has approved a request to hold a special meeting on Thursday, Nov. 29, to discuss employee incentives.

Rodriguez had previously denied a request made by fellow trustees Oscar Medrano and Hector Leal to hold a meeting on Monday, Nov. 19, to discuss or take action on a resolution awarding additional compensation for employees’ extra duties occasioned by the 2011 district-wide reorganization, and to reward retained employees for their continued service to SBCISD. The board president’s denial sparked outrage by many in the community, including district employees and Medrano, who said he couldn’t recall any trustees’ request for a meeting being denied.

Also, Medrano stressed that time was a factor as the employees’ incentives may not take effect until after the Christmas holidays if not voted on in November.

Limón, however, said that Rodriguez approved a Nov. 29 meeting to accommodate Medrano and Leal since they were going to be out of town on Dec. 4, the date in which the board president preferred the meeting be held.

Furthermore, the superintendent said Board Secretary June Aguilera put in a request to hold the meeting on Nov. 29 as well. Limón also said that the date provided district staff “ample time” to make payment adjustments to employees, should that be the will of the board.

Luis is right… Board president has no leadership skills and no people skills either.
Investigation, investigation, investigation!! Make it happen, please.

But in my opinion, Ex Coach’s wife point is well taken. Obviously it would be “utopia” if this school board could function as one, but unfortunately I do not see that dream coming to light. Art is absolutely right, four board members had formed a “Survivor” reality show type of alliance before the gavel was even pounded.

And maybe us citizens would have better comprehended if the school board would have sternly but empathetically communicated that school district employes are surely deserving of incentive pay, but unfortunately present budget constraints prohibit granting incentive at this time. But procrastinating on this Issue allowed additional time for supporters of the incentive pay proposal to gather steam. Now School Board members will probably be voting themselves out of office if they vote “neigh” on this issue. But then again, this vote just might help push them off the hill.

Mr. Medrano should be the president. Mrs. Rodriguez has no leadership skills.

I bet she’ll be real happy when she cashes her Christmas incentive check from Los Fresnos ISD. I’m sure those Los Fresnos ISD employees enjoy their yearly raises.

    Ex-Coach- Wife:
I wonder if you attend any of the district meetings?!!
I ask this because if you did you would know that Mr. Medrano has been the only school board member that has tried working with those other board members! It is very obvious that the other board members ran for office with a personal agenda and a plan to execute all their plans to destroy SBCISD and certain groups or individuals whom they have a personal vendetta against!! I personally am proud that Mr. Medrano, Ms. Cruz, and Mr. Leal stand up for what is just!! They make the tough decisions that they were elected to make for the best interest of the district!! They can’t be soft or weak with those other uneducated, disrespectful people! Put yourself in his shoes!! Politics is not for the weak but for those that are willing to speak up and fight for what is right when corrupt and crooked groups of people try to come and destroy and tarnish OUR school district!!!
    Think about it!!
I wonder if you would be saying this to yourself if you were the board member in his seat struggling to move forward with people like those four members that are plain worthless and incapable of working with!
Or are you suggesting that he should just sit there and not say anything and let those four board members make all the decisions and just burn the district down to the ground????

Who does not want an incentive but I hope the school board members are careful with this decision; because remember we are in a hole and we just cut PreK and other departments at the beginning of the year. SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS I hope our district can afford it and I find it interesting that everyone praises Mrs. Cruz, Mr. Leal and Mr. Medrano for everything (at times they are right but not always) We need to unite as district because it is very embarrassing to have this consent bickering; and yes our school board president needs to step it up as a board president but come on Medrano who have been harassing her since day one.. and thats because I voted for you, not everything needs to be challenged lets start moving forward and sometimes Medrano you need to look at the whole picture not just one picture..You are a smart man and probably the only board member that attends school functions and that is so awesome to see but ease up a bit and try and work together. ITS ABOUT THE KIDS AND THE DISTRICT.

Thank you Mrs. Cruz, Mr. Leal, Mr. Medrano and Mr. Limon for standing up to THAT BOARD PRESIDENT. We now know who REALLY WANTS to GIVE EMPLOYEES an INCENTIVE!

Tonight, the school board had a workshop on the budget to discuss the “incentive” that they tabled a few weeks ago. What I cannot believe is that the BOARD PRESIDENT SHOWED NO DESIRE to GIVE THE INCENTIVE. She along with the young board member dragged the discussion on and on. Thank goodness Mr. Leal brought the decision back to what the meeting was about. SEE it PAYS to HAVE a DEGREE.

  1. Finally the board president approves a meeting! Thank you Mr. Medrano, Mr. Leal, and Ms. Cruz for considering us employees from the school district. I find it appalling that someone who we have chosen to represent our school district is never available to comment. She needs to be removed as president considering all the unethical thnks she has committed. As a citizen of San Benito I encourage everyone to start a petition to remove her as president.’

We can’t wait for the board president and her “3”
Friends re-election. How dare you stop our bonus?
You might not need the money, but we have payments to make.
No support from my family will be coming to you.

Many thanks to Mr. Oscar Medrano, Mr. Hector Leal, and Ms. Ana Cruz for believing in us district employees. You have done so much to get this incentive on the table and passed. We know you have been ignored for the last two weeks by the school board president, yet we are hopeful that the other board members will vote in favor. You are true leaders who care for the well-being of our students, faculty and staff. We thank you for your support! You have my vote!
