Voters to decide presidency, state and local races

ElectionsIn just a few days, all the answers sought as to who will lead this county, state and local communities may be answered.

Polls will open Tuesday, Nov. 6, in the 2012 General Election in San Benito for Precinct 17 at La Encantada Elementary, located at 35001 FM 1577; Pct. 18 at the San Benito Fire Station, 1205 S. Sam Houston Blvd.; Pct. 19 at the San Benito Community Building, 210 E. Heywood St.; Pct. 21 at Frank Roberts Elementary, 650 N. Biddle St.; Pct. 22 at Sullivan Elementary, 900 Elizabeth St.; Pct. 23 at Rangerville Elementary, 17558 Landrum Park Rd.; Pct. 40 at Fred Booth Elementary, 705 Zaragosa St.; Pct. 50 at Ed Downs Elementary, 1302 N. Dick Dowling; and Pct. 51 at La Paloma Elementary, 35076 Main St.

In Rio Hondo, Pct. 20 voters can cast their ballots at the City of Rio Hondo Lois Bates Room, 121 N. Arroyo St., or at Pct. 81 at Rio Hondo High School, 22547 State Hwy. 345.

Los Fresnos voters in Precincts 3 and 66 can vote at the Los Fresnos Community Building, 204 Brazil St.; Pct. 65 at the Las Palmas Housing Project Community Room, Hwy 100 and Orive Blvd.; and Pct. 95 at Dora Romero Elementary, 9705 Cajun Blvd.

For Los Indios, Pct. 25 will be set up at the Los Indios Family Learning Center, 318 Heywood St.

Early voting in these communities wrapped up Friday, November 2.

Voters will be deciding a number of high profile races, including the bid for U.S. Congress District 34 between Republican Jessica Puente Bradshaw and Democrat Filemon Vela. Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio, a Democrat, faces Republican challenger Jimmy Manrrique. Bids for Cameron County District Attorney are being sought by Republican Chuck Mattingly and Democrat Luis V. Saenz. Pct. 3 Cameron County Commissioner David Garza, a Democrat, is running against Republican Manuel Abrego. Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector Tony Yzaguirre, Jr., a Democrat, is vying against Republican Moses Sorola. Pct. 3 Cameron County Constable Jose Cavazos, a Democrat, faces Republican challenger Robert Lopez, whose incumbent Pct. 4 office has been consolidated with Cavazos’ Pct. 3 jurisdiction.

Clearly, the biggest race is that of United States President Barack Obama versus Republican nominee Mitt Romney. Numerous polls have shown the two neck and neck.

  1. From what I have seen both Romney and Obama on TV Obama seems to have a longer neck then Romney’s.
