The 70th Annual Pigskin Jubilee is scheduled this Saturday at Bobby Morrow Stadium. There will be 24 groups performing from Region 28, which consists of bands from 2A-5A schools, ranging in geographical location from Brownsville to Donna.
“This is what is considered a Sweepstakes state year for 5A and 3A school bands,” said San Benito High School Director of Instrumental Ensembles, Wilberto Perez. He explained, “What that means, is all bands that receive a division 1 rating at Pigskin Jubilee will advance to area tryouts. These tryouts will be in Calallen on October 27. For 5A bands, it will be held in Laredo, also on the 27th.” At area, students will compete against bands from across South Texas, or from the Valley all the way to San Antonio.
Of Saturday’s event, Perez said, “Our band is going to do awesome. This will be our best year by far. The kids are doing great, and we have a very exciting show.” Perez explained, “All bands want to be successful. We’re all competitive and we all want to win every contest. Six or seven bands from our area get to advance to state.”

I attended my first Pigskin in 1976 with my parents at the age of 10 years old and I was hooked on music since then. I have attended reguarly for the past 36 years.
In fact this year, is the 30th year since my Senior marching season.
Go Mighty Greyhound Marching Band! And on to State!
