Leading into October, which is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, there were two arrests made in the city of San Benito for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Both arrests occurred on September 30 and allegedly involved family violence between a male aggressor and a female victim.

Victor Hugo Castro, a 38-year-old male of San Benito, allegedly displayed a knife and threatened to stab his live-in girlfriend on numerous occasions before pushing the 33-year-old victim to the ground. The two reside at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel on the 200 block of East Stenger. Once on the ground, Castro allegedly punched the victim repeatedly on the left side of her face, causing pain. Officers arrived near 12:30 a.m. and placed Castro under arrest.

Around 3:30 p.m. the same day, at a mobile home park on North Helen Moore Road, a 48-year-old female victim stated that, in an unrelated incident, she and her father experienced a verbal altercation which turned violent. The victim’s father, George Paul Kelley, 76, of San Benito allegedly put a knife to the victim’s throat after becoming upset regarding financial discrepancies on his bank statement.
