Former San Benito News editor, Charles M. Robinson III once fought a goose.

It’s interesting that, for a man whose work as an author and historian received critical acclaim and accolades, this is how he’s remembered by his friends and former colleagues.

Then again, those who knew him well would say that’s simply Charlie.

“Charlie says, ‘I’ve been in the Merchant Marines, I’ve traveled a lot, and I’ve been shot at, so I’m not afraid of a goose!’ And then the goose bites him!” Bertha Wilson laughed as she recalled one of the many occasions that Robinson accompanied her to select the San Benito Chamber of Commerce Pride Home and Business of the Month.
