moneySan Benito officials are hopeful that a recent surge in sales tax revenues is a good sign for a local economy still recovering from the recession.

In the months of May-August 2012, sales tax revenues were up from the previous year. The increase, although slight, is evident in the aforementioned four months when compared to the same time last year.

City Manager Manuel Lara said, “I can tell you that stores like HEB, Walmart, Lack’s, dollar stores, and others make a contribution to the overall” increase in sales tax revenues.

When asked if Walgreens might contribute positively in the near future, the city manager said, “It is still too soon to tell.”

Mayor Joe H. Hernandez said, “It’s definitely a good sign for the city, and I’m happy that it’s higher than last year. We’re also working on different projects, and hopefully by next year things will be a lot better.”

A highlight of this year’s sales tax revenues follows and includes comparisons to respective months in subsequent years.

How bout a marijuana dispensery? I hear they really kick up the sales tax revenue.

  1. Just keep the gamleing business out and bring in some good old fashon restaurants chains to town. If San Benito is growing make sure it has the correct support sytems to make it grown stright and healthy attacting good old fashion honest citizens who are ust looking for a nice and friendly town to visit or move too and call it home.
