gavelDuring Tuesday’s regular San Benito City Commission meeting, commissioners unanimously denied to reinstate Sandra Tumberlinson to the Veterans Advisory Board and to remove Guadalupe Ayala’s Place 3 appointment.

The decision happened after commissioners deliberated in executive session for half an hour. Although Mayor Joe H. Hernandez made the motion to reinstate Tumberlinson, the motion died due to lack of a second.

Tumberlinson believes she was ousted from the board this summer due to her opposing Hernandez’s replacement of the Veterans War Memorial plaque with his name instead of his predecessor, Jack Garcia. In response, she sought legal advice from attorney Randall Crane, who requested a grievance hearing to which the commissioners agreed upon, although no date was set at that time.
