These Greyhounds have always had style, but now they look the part.
“As you know, the San Benito Greyhounds have been named the Nike Rivalry Uniform Contest winner (for) 2012,” said Blake Timmons, Nike Football Marketing Specialist at the San Benito High School Sports Complex on Thursday. Timmons added, “The Battle of the Arroyo has been named the biggest rivalry in the entire state this year.”
A video documentary for the San Benito Greyhounds, emphasizing the significance of the Battle of the Arroyo – the long-standing rivalry game between the San Benito Greyhounds and Harlingen Cardinals – was produced last year by the school district’s KSBG TV station. It has profited the mighty Greyhounds 70 new, state-of-the-art uniforms, not to mention compression gear, shoes, gloves, wrist bands, and additional accompanying gear courtesy of Nike and free of charge.
School district officials have credited the KSBG TV station crew, consisting of San Benito CISD Director of Communications Celia Longoria, Operations Manager David Cortez as well as TV Production Technicians Isabel Gomez and Balde Olivarez. Also assisting them were members of the extended crew, including Rene Ramirez, Elizabeth Hernandez, and A/V Productions students Bernaby Castrejon and Marco Rodriguez. But in the end, it was voters from the community that helped seal the win for the video.
