While the sweet taste of opening the season with a win still remains for the San Benito Greyhounds, the Harlingen Cardinals have been itching to wipe the bitter feeling of an uncharacteristic blowout loss to start their 2012 campaign.

In what arguably is the most anticipated Battle of the Arroyo matchup in recent years, the 1-0 Greyhounds will try to hand the ’Cards their second straight loss of the season on Friday in this their 83rd meeting.

San Benito is coming off a very impressive victory over a formidable Los Fresnos Falcons team, a game in which the Greyhound defense looked like the new version of the purple people eaters.

The swarming defense of the ’Hounds appeared to be in midseason form led by linebacker René Chavez, Jr., who accounted for several tackles and quarterbacked the defense, San Benito only allowed one touchdown on a broken play.

The only way the Hounds will get pass the Cardinals if they play together as a team as warriors

  1. May the best team win. Looks like they are going to start evenly matched till someone starts holding on to thier foot hopping around saying ouch! ouch! SB has some big games comeing up with the new district they better send out a clear message and beat Harlingen. No rain expected it should be a crisp night for some smooth and crisp football. Hope SB gets a meaning from every play because those fireworks are’nt there for the show. Good Luck and play your hearts out.
