In a wood paneled living room, adorned in handsome artwork and overlooking windows showcasing a green landscape and waterfront view, sat four long-time friends and former students of the late Ruth McAnally, in an effort to award two $1,500 scholarships to deserving students.
The four friends and members representing the McAnally Foundation share common respect for “Mrs. Mac,” who taught for over 40 years with the San Benito school district. Each former student had an English class with Mrs. Mac during the 1940s, and the four aforementioned friends were no exception.
In this, the foundation’s seventh year, the board has noticed a significant increase in applicants. As previously reported, this year’s scholarships were awarded to Alexandria Arredondo, 17, and Alexis Curiel, of San Benito High School.
