A shift in taxes is necessary in efforts to continue to “stretch pennies” and avoid cuts, at least that’s according to officials with the Rio Hondo Independent School District.
However, and according to RHISD Superintendent Anneliese McMinn, the district does not plan to raise taxes despite calling a tax ratification election that would shift $0.13 from the I&S, interest and sinking, fund to the M&O, maintenance and operation, fund. The amount expected to be generated, however, has yet to be revealed.
“We’re not raising taxes,” McMinn stressed, “but if it doesn’t pass it would mean cuts eventually.”
