Carmen Torres Gonzales, 89, of San Benito, Texas went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, July 23, 2012.
Carmen was born in San Benito, Texas on November 3, 1922. She spent most of her life in San Benito, where she met her late husband Antonio Gonzales, married and had nine children. Carmen lived her life for her children and instilled a family bond that will live through generations to come. Her core was that of the Catholic faith, and remained with her throughout her life and onto eternal life. “Wela” Carmen, the name most called her, especially enjoyed a day out with her children and grandchildren. Carmen loved life. Our family is comforted knowing that in her final days, that love for life she had, is the everlasting life she sought and found with our Savior.
Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Gonzales; her son, Juan “Nini” Gonzales; and her grandson, Antonio Gonzales IV.
She is survived by her children: Guadalupe Gonzales, Otilia Gonzales, Apolinar Gonzales, Angel Gonzales, Jose Gonzales, Olivia G. Aguilera, Andres Gonzales, Antonio Gonzales; her sister, Reyes Gutierrez; 34 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
We await the day when we will all meet again, in the heavens under a shaded tree to feast, and enjoy some pan dulce.
Visitation will be held on July 25, 2012 from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas.
Celebration mass will be held at 10 a.m. on July 26, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Benito, followed by funeral services at San Benito City Cemetery.
A special thanks to Atrium Place Staff and Odyssey Hospice for their warm and thoughtful care.
You may sign the online guestbook and send words of comfort, flowers, or sympathy cards to the family of Carmen Torres Gonzales at www.thomaegarza.com.
