CDBG contends with less funding

City of San BenitoFunding for the San Benito Community Development Block Grant program has again been allotted less monies.

According to Sandee Alvarez, community development coordinator, the federal government has continued a recent trend of allotting decreased CDBG funding. Specifically, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) plans to give the city $398,903 this October, comparatively less than the $450,664 last year and the $545,708 the 2010-2011 year.

The cuts will affect programs such as the START Center, Maggie’s House, Amigos Del Valle and the Boys & Girls Club of San Benito, among other improvement projects for streets and housing.
