Funding for the San Benito Community Development Block Grant program has again been allotted less monies.
According to Sandee Alvarez, community development coordinator, the federal government has continued a recent trend of allotting decreased CDBG funding. Specifically, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) plans to give the city $398,903 this October, comparatively less than the $450,664 last year and the $545,708 the 2010-2011 year.
The cuts will affect programs such as the START Center, Maggie’s House, Amigos Del Valle and the Boys & Girls Club of San Benito, among other improvement projects for streets and housing.
