A shooting incident that claimed the life of a 16-year-old San Benito High School student on Monday has left the teen’s family devastated and the community in shock.

San Benito police confirmed Tuesday that the teen in question, Ethan Hausler, was found dead at approximately 12:08 p.m. on June 11 from a single gunshot wound to the head. Detective Rogelio Banda stated in a press release that Hausler’s body was found inside his residence on the 2200 block of N. Sam Houston Blvd. with a weapon beside him. According to police, the weapon used in the shooting was a single shot .20 gauge shotgun that belonged to the family.

Banda said EMS responded to the scene, as did San Benito police and the Cameron County medical examiner, and determined that Hausler “did not present any vital signs.” The county medical examiner then pronounced Haulser dead.
