The San Benito Greyhounds 7 on 7 football team recently traveled to Calallen for a state qualifying tournament. The team competed against Weslaco #2, winning 53-12, and also defeated Victoria West, 41-21. The team then played against Gregory Portland in the third game in the pool “C” bracket and lost in final two minutes by a score of 47-42. The team made up a two-touchdown deficit vs. GP within the last 10 minutes of game but ran out of time in the last offensive drive. The ’Hounds ended up with a 2-1 record and just missed making semifinals for the tourney. The 7 on 7 Hounds are competing to qualify for the state tournament to be televised on the Fox Sports Southwest station from July 19-20 at College Station. The team is made up of the upcoming 2012 Greyhound quarterbacks and receivers along with the defensive squad. The team will next compete at the last chance qualifying tournament of the season at Mission Veterans on June 30. The team is coached and managed by Rene Chavez and JD Rangel. (Courtesy photo)

I hope SB does not go bak to a running QB ever since Randy Reza who perfected the running game as a QB every SB QB since wants to do the same.
Does anybody know who the San Benito Quarterback is going to be for the upcoming season?
They’ll be ok once the seson starts SB is predicted to come out second in thier district.
The reason why weslaco and edcouch beat sb is because their guys are alot more mature than the sb guys. SB will struggle aginst the next district line up this fall. Who in thier right mind wears baggy shorts to play football? They will not grow anymore so they better but on some weight in muscle and run sprints every day to develope speed and quickness.
Well to be fair howard johnson alot of teams that I have seen on 7on7 wear very baggy shorts. I don’t get it either? But Edcouch and Weslaco beat SB because they have better 7on7 teams and have been doing very feel. In fact Weslaco already qualified for the state tournament in a tourney up north. And I believe Edcouch and beaten Weslaco more than once this year on 7on7. I mean a teams 7on7 success doesn’t translate to how they will do in the fall and Im sure you know that but I do agree you SB is going to have to work hard if they want to be successful in the new 31-5A.
I agree I just wanted to post that score cause I didn’t want anyone thinking sb 7on7 was the team to beat or anything, they also lost pretty good to edcouch 7on7 team on tuesday. Come the fall there’s going to be a lot of good teams in the new 31-5A. Watch out for Weslaco High, McAllen Memorial and Psja North inparticularly. Good Luck.
True. I see what you were trying to say and I agree.
Weslaco beat San Benito 56-20 at the mission 7on7 tourney yesterday, guess the hounds aren’t that great after all.
Thats fine just as long as they do good in the fall when it matters most.
And besides that tourney didnt mean anything. The Hounds still have the SQT left at mission veterans.
Good Luck and GO HOUNDS!!!
Go Hounds!
