BREAKING: San Benito cop arrested for pointing gun at deputy

A San Benito police officer was arrested over the weekend for allegedly pointing a gun at a Sheriff’s deputy.

Officer Candido Ortiz of the San Benito Police Department has been charged with aggravated assault of a public servant following an incident in which deputies with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic disturbance at his home.

SBPD authorities confirmed that Ortiz was arrested by Sheriff’s deputies after he allegedly pointed a gun at one of them.

Ortiz is currently incarcerated at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito.

San Benito police will be holding a press conference at 2 p.m. today to address the matter. More information will be pending the outcome of the press conference.
