The San Benito Civil Service Commission upheld a March 31 decision to indefinitely suspend Fire Marshal Henry Lopez during an appeal hearing on Tuesday.

The conclusion of the hearing marks the close of yet another chapter in an ongoing war of words between Lopez, Assistant City Manager Arturo Rodriguez and San Benito Fire Department Operations Chief Raul Zuniga who initially handed down the suspension on the fire marshal for alleged misconduct stemming from a Jan. 4 altercation involving the three of them.

As previously reported, Zuniga, in a letter informing the fire marshal of his indefinite suspension, wrote that Lopez “engaged in misconduct” due to “unauthorized media contact… on matters that are not of any public concern.”
