The times, they are a-changing.
That was the general feeling this Monday as the Friends of the San Benito Public Library regular meeting introduced their newest president, Roberta Schoenmakers. The previous president, Ernest Quintanilla, resigned during last month’s meeting citing personal reasons.
This marks the third time in the year that such changes have been made. Before, Terri Cortez and Valarie Hopperstad also left the Friends, also citing personal reasons. They have now replaced by Dahlia Schoenmakers as treasurer and April Treviño as secretary.
The Friends of the San Benito Public Library was organized in the mid-1980s to facilitate the library’s needs by helping raise additional fundraising. Although no library staff can be part of the Friends, they do on occasion provide assistance and guidance during the meetings. As was the case Monday, in which the staff welcomed the new president into the Friends.
“We want to help the Library with all the help the Friends can give,” Roberta Schoenmakers said in her opening speech during the meeting.
