San Benito CISD School Board President Yliana G. Rodriguez has retracted a letter she signed on May 16 that informed the district’s insurance agents and carriers that another group would be serving the district.

Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón said Rodriguez informed him via email at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Friday that she wished to retract said letter.

“Board President Yliana G. Rodriguez, in a memo dated May 18, 2012 and sent via email to Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón, is requesting formal retraction of a memo dated May 16, 2012, which was sent to the district’s insurance carriers on her authority,” read a memo Limón addressed to the same agents and carriers noted in Rodriguez’s original letter.

“Many times we have lots of Chiefs and not enough Indians.” That’s racist! I believe the preferred nomenclature is Native American.

Hey tired…welcome to the world of school politics! I hate to burst your bubble, but this is not just happening in San Benito. It happens all over. Perhaps you should run for school board rather than pulling your children out of San Benito schools. My little girl attends Dr. Cash Elementary, and I would never change her anywhere else. What we need to do is change the way we vote and elect school board members who are competent and qualified. We all must get involved in the process not run away from it. What are you doing to make our schools better? How are you making a difference? Are you volunteering at your children’s school? Are you part of the PTO? Many times we have lots of Chiefs and not enough Indians. I say vote “TIRED” for school board!!!

Gosh, you people are terrible. When is San Benito going to get people in who aren’t on one side or the other? Get over yourselves. The children’s education are at stake here. I am surprised TEA has not been more involved, but I foresee then getting involved soon. It’s a GAME of tug-of-war for the board. People who aren’t affiliated with either side need to step in. This was old lady decade. After reading what I’ve read in the past few weeks, I would never send my children to a San Benito school anymore. Is there anyone out there who is not assosiated with either side?!

Hey M.G.L. don’t undermine the employees who work for San Benito CISD. We are all employed to do a job and we work hard in getting the job done day in and day out. Shame on you for putting down our faculty!! You talk about compadrismo? Are you kidding me?? Fatima Huerta, her brother Julian Huerta and Yliana Rodriguez are all about compadrismo. Yliana even has her mother and father both working for the district! Hello!! So please don’t even go there!! I am sure you know that very well at Miller Jordan. And let’s be honest M.G.L., you and I know the voters who voted for these uneducated board members. Does El Jardin ring the bell??? As for Medrano firing someone, there you go with another stupid comment. You and Yliana Rodriguez are so much alike: THE PRESIDENT DOES NOT HANDLE THE DAILY OPERATIONS OF THE DISTRICT!! If anyone fired the lady you talk about, it was the superintendent, and I am sure there was a good reason for it. I bet she was your comadre or related to you! Lol! It never amazes me how ignorance feeds ignorance! LMAO!!!!

M.G.L.:  What could these two new board members possibly know about anything going on in this school district, whether anything has been effective or not? They have been on the board for less than a week.  They should get to know the district before trying to “change” anything. Training? They had an opportunity to go to free training last weekend and they didn’t. And remember, when they have been asked by the media to talk, their answer is “no comment”. Without being ashamed from San Benito? What happened to being an involved, proud community member.

@Ricky, SBCISD has a few hard working employees, and a whole bunch of staff that do not know what they are doing, or simply just don’t care except to get their paychecks. The education of the children was jeopardized a long time ago when people were hired through ‘compardrismo’. As for the American Way, the people voted for this board, so get over it. Instead of everybody trying to bring them down, teach them, send them to training, let them know what really goes on in the schools. Shame on you for trying to undermine the beginning of what could be the change that our school district needs to ensure the students get the education they deserve so they can get through life without being ashamed they are from San Benito.

Wondering who’s to blame for the majority shift? The former majority and the supt. They became too comfortable. After all, the supt’s primary job in SB is to take care of the board members. As long as he does, he maintains his employment. The supt was too busy trying to keep his job that he forgot to do his job. Now Mr. Medrano is crying wolf. I am curious whether he did the same thing when his faction was in the majority. Not too long, the faction that Mr. Medrano was part of stripped the hiring/firing duties from the former supt Joe Gonzalez. Why wasn’t complaining back then?

Another newspaper organization has the story about this insurance mess that was created by the board president. Way to go board president!!  You’re an administrator of a neighboring district (according to the Valley Star) and you act in this manner. Now everyone in the Rio Grande Valley knows YOUR personal agenda. Wow!

Seriously: To your comment “no complaints”: There has not been any  need for complaining. I say that because if there was any reason for complaining, someone would have taken the opportunity to complain long before now. You would want us to “wait and see”. Wait and see for what?? The education of our children is not a game. SBCISD has outstanding, hard working employees. This board, of less than one week,  has make it their “personal agenda” to criticize them because it is all over this town. This town is small enough that if you ask anyone with knowledge of the school district, they will tell you. Shame on this “new board”. I will hold each of them accountable for my vote as that is the American Way.

To Senior Analyist I don’t think anyone should ever be asked to apologize for speaking their mind of a public official. Everyone has a right to their Opinion and it should remain that way. It is the United States after all. Whether they are right or wrong. You can correct them if it is factual but on an opinion well that is different. I’m not blasting you or anything. I’m just stating my opion. BTW I am a strong supportter of Oscar Medrano too.

Well, have you not been reading through the years, or are you not involved with the district community as to know that Mr. Medrano volunteers within the community and county, has been recognized and awarded numerous awards, school board member state award, etc, etc, etc. Mr. Medrano is a great leader, motivator, and very well respected and admired. Please apoligize.

With all due respect, the word leadership is foreign to Mr. Medrano. Awards don’t make leaders. It’s their willingness to maintain focus on the big picture (the children), the willingness to bring people together with different view points, etc. Unfortunately through time, Mr. Medrano got caught up in the little group he’s involved in, to the point that he all knew was based on what this group told me that he inevitably believed and acted on. This “groupthink” does not make a leader.

I am still wondering what connections she has to these insurance agents? And why is she always avoiding talking to the media? Hello! Does she have something to hide? I don’t know who is dumber her or the person who gave her the advice to sign this letter. So many questions still left to be answered on this ?? Keep investigating SB News!!!

After all, he was president and yet he still allowed the superintendent to violate all kinds of state and federal laws.

Why is it when, our school board president does something, OMG it is so unethical but we have seen many unethical things going on with the school district for many years. Give them a chance to change the district to a better direction, because we are not on the right path, and it has been like that for years. On another note, what happen to Oscar Medrano not attending the meeting. This school board member, does have the students and the district in his heart BUT if he could only think for himself and become a leader (NOT A FOLLOWER) he might be a respected school board member. IT WAS TIME FOR A CHANGE!!!!! Lets move on to something else.

Medrano was never and will never be the best nor a true leader, he needs to be replaced at the next election. The lawsuit is in federal court, why don’t you take a look, I read it there and it seems that the school district was doing unethical things long before the new board was elected. Oh, let’s not mention, oh, are you the cop that took him to Stripes when he arrested so he could pay the fine with a money order or something like that. LOL

Hey SBTAXPAYER! Yliana Rodriguez put herself on the spotlight by signing and sending out this letter. Hello!! Don’t blame Mr. Limon on this one!! And now she wants to retract the letter? Give me a break! What is wrong with this lady?? The damage was already done by her ignorant and irresponsible decision. I don’t see what good insurance agent will now be willing to want to work for San Benito CISD after knowing that Yliana Rodriguez has her favorite insurance agents. By the way, I told you they would nominate this president again. I saw the meeting on tv. What a circus! Will someone please tell the Cruz lady which is her right arm please. Hello!! And yes SBTAXPAYER, I hope your Yliana keeps making a fool out of herself along with her kronies Huerta, Huerta, Cruz and the 19 year old. You bet that time will tell on how everyone made a huge and horrible mistake in electing these people. Wait a minute…I think it already has. lmao!!!!

Are you trying to say that because two new board members (and they just got elected) are on the board, he is now on the “hot” seat? How is that possible? They have been on the board for one day.  Your comment “She’s only on the board”. Come on, this is San Benito. He’s not making any decisions.

@alvin, you don’t even know, so hush, Limon provides the information to the school board, he’s the go-between, and he makes stupid decisions, again, if he can lie to a federal agency, he can lie to the public.

  1. Aretta, holding a school board meeting at the high school band hall is actually quite common.

That Girl, the entertainment at the school board meeting you’re referring to was provided by the high school mariachi band. This, too, is common for school board meetings in San Benito.

I hear that there was entertainment at the school board meeting. Is this common practice  at a school board swearing in ceremony? I hope my tax dollars did not go towards paying for this entertainment.  My tax money needs to be used for the education of the students, not for board members’ wishes.  I certainly hope these board members get their act together.

    1. SBTAXPAYER, the board president is of significance to the story because it is her name signed on the letter/memo that’s in question.

@armadillo, she isn’t the problem, its the whole system. SBCISD needs a person from out of the valley as superintendent that knows how to run a school district and these school board members need to receive training, through the TEA or else where because they are new and should be exposed to the information they need to carry out their duties.
