Officers arrested a man believed to be one of two suspects who participated in the Stripes convenience store robbery on April 21.
Jerome Huerta, 19, from San Benito was arrested Thursday on the 1000 block of West Johnson Street in Harlingen on charges for aggravated assault, a first degree felony, after allegedly assaulting a Stripes clerk before fleeing on foot with stolen cash.
The two men during that robbery assaulted the clerk with a screw driver and a metal pipe after the clerk explained to them that he did not know how to open the register.

Obviously this kid has very little, if anything to live for. If a mugshot was taken of me after robbery, I’d be disgraced! I’m glad they caught him, but this is a sad case of world affairs when people use this as a ticket to fame and fortune.
Yes I know who you are! Your doing a great Job Mike… Keep it up..Just miss good ol San Bene! Go Hounds!

Thanks, I appreciate it. We’ll continue to do our best for you and our readers. Stay safe out there in the meantime. You make us all proud.
I’m not saying don’t report the news, Editor! Simply don’t give these kids the option to think it’s a joke to assault someone! If that store clerk got stabbed and died, I bet you wouldn’t have put that photo up!!!

Of course we would have, but by doing so we’re not giving kids any such option. The suspect’s mug shot is obviously of significance to a story reporting the crime in which he’s accused. In fact, sometimes the nature of the mugshot alone can be newsworthy. Nick Nolte ring a bell?
I understand why this is an issue with you, Joe. I’m also a 1999 graduate of SBHS and have great pride in this town. I just simply disagree with the notion that the San Benito News is somehow doing the community a disservice by publishing a suspect’s mug shot. This is common. This is news.
This is stupid! Why would you give this punk the satisfaction of getting his mug shot viewed online! All he is going to do is brag about it and his buddies are gonna follow! This is what’s wrong with these punks, they all think it’s a game..I’m currently serving in Afghanistan and always represent my city, it’s sad to see all this dumb stuff going on back home! How about putting up some good positive stuff and leave these punks off the site. Let’s go San Bene keep these kids in check..what happen to Que Bonito San Benito and having pride in our town!

I’m sorry you feel that way, Joe. But this is a newspaper that covers both “positive” stories and crime. If we were to have it your way, we’d cease to be a newspaper. I’m also not about to explain to our readers, who rely on us to report the news, that we’ve opted not to cover these stories simply because you consider it sad. It would be irresponsible of the San Benito News to withhold information from the public that pertains to crimes in the area.
Besides, visit our website more often and you’ll see plenty of those “positive” stories you long for. The pride you speak of exists in the sports articles alone.
That vato’s just smiling!
