Cesario Mata Pena

Cesario PenaCesario Mata Pena, 62, of San Benito, Texas, entered into rest on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Harlingen Medical Center.

Cesario was born on November 1, 1949 in Marks, Mississippi to Roque and Juana M. Pena, Sr. He was a well-loved man who was one of the biggest Dallas Cowboy and Greyhounds fan; and will be missed dearly. His passion for music and Yoko Ono was legendary and he never met anyone who didn’t become his friend.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elida D. Pena; father, Roque Pena, Sr.; Tia Librada Pena; Tia Lorenza Mata Reza; Tia Agundia Munoz; Tio Ponciano Mata; Tio Alberto Mata; and Tio Clemente Mata.

He is survived by his children: Roque Cesario Pena and Valerie (Jacob) Nowlin; his mother, Juana Mata Pena; brothers: Roque (Francisca) Pena, Jr. of Aurora, IL, Alfredo (Ana) Pena, Rodolfo (Aurora) Pena, Luis (Liboria) Pena, Sabas (Cheryl) Pena, Juan Antonio (Aleta) Pena; and sister, Norma Pena García, all of San Benito. He is also survived by numerous relatives, as well as family and friends in Texas and California.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito.

Chapel service will take place at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Cremation will follow in accordance to his wishes.
