Forty-five years it is.
Julio Cesar Perez, a local Pentecostal pastor convicted of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot to kill his wife was sentenced Friday to 45 years in prison for his crime.
Perez, 41, had pleaded guilty to murder Tuesday as part of a plea agreement, according to the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors had requested the 45-year sentence to honor the plea agreement.
The husband of a Rio Hondo teacher, Perez arranged to have his wife, Sonia Perez, killed on March 31, 2011 to collect a $120,000 insurance policy and hired five men to carry out the crime.
