Upon first listen, it’s hard to believe that the music played by accordionists Zeth Lara, 12, and Candie Cerda, 17, is not coming from seasoned musicians.
Interestingly, the San Benito youths, though recently named semi-finalists in the Sixth Annual Big Squeeze competition, do not appear to know just how good they really are.
“Wow, he’s really good,” Candie said when she heard Zeth play inside the San Benito News office on Thursday. “He’s better than I am!”
Zeth returned the favor, saying to Candie, “You’re good, too!”
It was as if the two have only been playing for a few years, and while feeding off of each other’s creative energy acknowledged their talents in much the same way beginners would.
