Two San Benito CISD campuses placed on lockdown this morning are resuming normal activities now that the lockdown at each campus has since been lifted.
Veterans Memorial Academy was placed on lockdown this morning for a period of 20 minutes due to pursuit of suspects by Border Patrol agents near the campus. The suspects were apprehended and the lockdown at that campus has since been lifted.
Across town, Fred Booth Elementary was placed on lockdown for a 15-minute period after being advised to do so by local law enforcement authorities and school police. Chief of Police SR Garcia said school and city police placed the school on lockdown while investigating reports of suspicious sounds coming from an area on Zaragosa and Corral Streets.
Students and staff at both campuses were safe and secure while authorities investigated both incidents. School personnel took immediate action to secure each individual campus during these incidents.
