baseball gloveOver 500 kids registered, up to 2,000 spectators expected – with numbers like these, it’s no wonder the San Benito Youth Baseball/Softball Association is expecting to host one of the more productive food drives in recent memory at its opening ceremonies later this month.

Scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at Stookey Park, City of San Benito Parks and Recreation Board Members Zeke Luna, chair, and Mike Frasier said the opening ceremonies for the association’s 2012 season will field 42 individual teams, not to mention a bevy of festivities that will include a motorcycle parade along with the NJROTC Color Guard, San Benito High School Band drum line and Conjunto Estrella.

Others expected to attend include cub scouts, H-E-Buddy, the WhiteWings mascot and local elected officials. And singing the National Anthem will be the SBHS choir.
