SAN BENITO, TX—Mrs. Dorothy Ann Culver passed on to be with her Lord on March 2, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Dorothy was 85 years old and was a lifetime resident of San Benito, Texas.
She graduated from San Benito High School in 1945. Dorothy Ann Young married Billy Gene Culver in Harlingen, Tx on Oct. 15, 1949. She was a mother and home maker many of her years, but did work at San Benito Bank & Trust as a bookkeeper and later managed the Heather Apartments in San Benito. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in San Benito and a member of the Elkettes which consisted of wives of the B.P.O.E. Elks in San Benito.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Driscoll Ralph Young, Sr. and Ninnie Ora Usry Young; her three brothers Samuel Leslie Young, Sr.; Driscoll Ralph Young, Jr.; Harold Earl Young and one sister Blanche Ora Young and her husband of 46 years Billy Gene Culver.
Survivors include two daughters Marsha Ann Culver (Carl) Wells from Missouri City, TX and Janet Lynn Culver from San Benito, TX; grandchildren Kevin Wade (Denae Jean Oanes) Wiley, Wendy Jennette Wiley, Zandra Zanetta Lewis Bartlett, Gene Everett Lewis and Kendall Lewis Walkingstick. Dorothy, known to family as Nanny, is also survived by five great-granddaughters Sarah Jane Bartlett, Hannah Grace Bartlett, Aliyah Naomi Bartlett, Braylahn Marie Wiley and Adley Grace Wiley and several nieces and nephews.
A viewing was held at Henry Thomae Funeral Home in San Benito on March 4, 2012 from 1 p.m.-7 p.m. Graveside services were held at Mont Meta Memorial Cemetery on March 5, 2012 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to The American Heart Association.
