Julian Sanchez, who for seven years has served as Precinct 3, Place 1 Justice of the Peace confirmed on Monday his intentions to step down as judge.

“I would like to announce that I am withdrawing my candidacy from the race for Justice of the Peace in Precinct 3, Place 1,” Sanchez wrote in a short statement he provided to the San Benito News on Monday. “I hope that this will give any other persons interested in running for the position a chance to file for the position and plan their campaign.”

In his statement, Sanchez looked forward to spending more time with his wife and family; although it was not cited as the determining factor behind his withdrawal.

Sanchez has served two terms as justice and boasts 32 years of law enforcement experience with the Texas Department of Public Safety. As of 2007, Sanchez had completed 180 certification hours of training in civil and criminal law and long touted modernizing the Pct. 3, Plc. 1 office, increasing case load and revenue as well as maintaining working relationships with other justices, not to mention the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District concerning juvenile-related cases.
