Berta T. CasasSAN BENITO/BROWNSVILLE, TX —Berta T. Casas, 87, of San Benito/Brownsville, TX passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

She enjoyed baking, sewing, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family. She also was involved with the Retired Teachers’ Association and a Catholic Prayer Group.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Hector E. Casas; and her parents, Julian Torres and Rosa T. Torres; her sisters, Margarita T. Correa (Jose) and Alicia T. Marin; half-sisters, Margarita T. Shoemaker and Julia Rosnalba (Johnny); half-brother, Francisco Torres (Patsy); and her grandson, Jose F. Casas-Vela.

Berta is survived by her children, Cynthia (Marc) Cerrato, Norma Casas, Linda Casas (Salvador Martinez), and Hector A. (Sonia) Casas; a grandson, Abraham Martinez; and her sisters, Rosita (Ernesto) Cantu and Tere Herstedt; her special nephew, Jose A. (Mary) Correa; and brother-in-laws, Joe Marin and Adolfo (Laura) Cordova. She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the holy rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home.

The funeral precession will depart San Benito Funeral Home on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
