The annual San Benito Christmas Parade has been postponed from Saturday evening on Dec. 10 due to a reported 60 percent chance of rain, according to Chamber of Commerce President Zeke Padilla.

The event is being rescheduled for Friday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. in downtown San Benito.

Safety factors weigh heavily in the decision to postpone the Christmas extravaganza, Padilla said, adding that east-northeast winds are also expected with temperatures to hit around 48 degrees.

Record entries, centered around the Centennial of Incorporation of the City of San Benito theme, have brought some outstanding and artful entries this year, Padilla said.

“These organizations and individuals have gone to considerable trouble and expense to create such imaginative floats. We want to ensure the opportunity that the public will be able to see and appreciate them, so we have scheduled Friday as the new parade date,” he said.

For more information, call Padilla at (956) 399-5321.
