The Aug. 1 tire fire near La Paloma has led the Texas Attorney General’s office to charge the owner of Waldrep Salvage, Bobby Ray Waldrep, with several violations of the Texas Solid Waste Disposal Act, according to a lawsuit the AG’s office filed against Waldrep on Nov. 10.

The fire that consumed over 20,000 scrap tires at Waldrep Salvage, which Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott called in a press release issued to the News Friday “an unauthorized waste tire storage site,” prompted the evacuation of nearby homes and the closure of Barlow Road, the location of the blaze.
