St. Benedict Healing ServiceTaking a drive down South Travis Street in San Benito Monday night was something of a spectacle.

Hundreds of churchgoers stood in line, occupying nearly three blocks for a special “healing service” at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.

In short, people were looking for a miracle.

Attending the service was Brother Carmelo Cortez and his “Miraculous Rose Petals,” which – as the story goes – are petals from white roses that, once blessed by Cortez have the power to heal and bless people.

Cortez is a Philippine native who was believed to be contacted by the Blessed Mother of Christ while praying, and was told to come out to the Catholic community to conduct healing services using the petals from white roses.
